Wintertime Fun
Light up for the Portland Light Festival!
The Portland Winter Light Festival returns again so the 'City of Roses' turns into a 'City of Lights'. Inspired by European celebrations and designed to bring light to the wintry darkness. The festival hosts imaginative works that combine creativity with light. For myself, attending the festival is a way to welcome the new year with a jumpstart of energy.
There was a decentralized footprint for the festival this year which allowed people more space to enjoy the art. The record cold brought a snow and ice storm but this only discouraged a few of the attendees.
Oak's Park was lit up in regal color. The roller coaster was an exhilarating view through the lens. By using a slow shutter speed I was able to capture fast objects speeding by which made them look as though they were floating in space.
The festival is free to the public and a map is available to help navigate around to all corners of the city. It was easy to lose track of time experimenting with my camera on so many of the interesting visuals.
"Night Flowers" is a magical garden that blooms with light in the dark. Check out the work of artist @Chance_Ci on IG.
It would be fun to visit the lighting festival in Copenhagen, Denmark which also takes place in February each year. They host both Danish and International artists and designers which adds a different expression to the winter season. And the food there is so delicious!
