A Colorful Tradition

A blaze of exciting color.

PEACOCK LANE is known for its’ elaborately decorated homes during the holiday season and has been a family-favorite place to visit since 1929. The quaint homes are famous for having one of Portland’s biggest lighting displays and is where you can find old-fashioned fun. The show returns this year to SE Portland and it’s open December 15-31st. And it’s free!

THE TUDOR STYLE homes were designed by architect Richard F. Wassell in 1924. Then in 2018, Peacock Lane was added to the National Register of Historic Places. I decided this would be a wonderful place to try out my light painting skills - where quaint architecture and elaborate lighting could result in something unexpected.

The Minions inspired me to have some fun this year on Peacock Lane. Here’s where I focused on making the green tree look even more dynamic. I thought my light painted version of this display was a lot more interesting than the still version below.

LIGHTING DISPLAYS ADORN the these homes and draw thousands of visitors each year. Maneuvering the crowds with my camera and clumsy tripod, I decided to explore the architectural details and fanciful lighting patterns in the neighborhood.

RED & GREEN is always festive this time of year but I wanted to explore this classic color theme differently. Below I was able to exaggerate the lighting and create a vertigo look by spinning my camera around on the tripod. Luckily, the pedestrians patiently dodged around me as I experimented with my camera.

2021 WAS AN INCREDIBLE YEAR of challenges, adventures and personal connections. I hope that my blog may inspire you to get outside more. And I look forward for the chance to hear your stories about new places to visit.

Wishing you and your loved ones an outstanding 2022!

With warm regards ~ Linda
